Gelecek Zaman - Future Tense

-acak / -ecek

Goal: Talk about future plans and actions, make negative future sentences and questions, and connect the future tense with grammar you already know.

What is the Future Tense?

Use the Turkish future tense for things that will happen later: tomorrow, next week, next month, etc. The main future endings are -acak / -ecek.

Yarın çalışacağım.

I will work tomorrow.

Akşam kafeye gideceğim.

I will go to the café this evening.

Hafta sonu kitap okuyacağım.

I will read a book at the weekend.

Build the future form

First remove -mak / -mek. Then add the future ending. The form changes slightly depending on the final sound of the verb.

gelmek → gel → gelecek

gitmek → git → gidecek

okumak → oku → okuyacak

içmek → iç → içecek

Note: In some personal forms, k changes to ğ before a vowel (e.g., gelecek + im → geleceğim).
