Goal: Say who something belongs to: my bag, your phone, her passport, our house, and use possessive forms with vocabulary from previous lessons.

What are possessive endings?

In English we use separate words such as my, your, his, her, our. In Turkish, the noun usually takes a possessive ending.

Words ending in a vowel (The S-Bridge)

When a noun ends in a vowel, Turkish uses a small s bridge before the third-person possessive ending.

Think of s as a small bridge before the third-person possessive ending.

Omitted Owners & Useful Sentences

Because the ending already shows the owner, Turkish often drops benim, senin, onun when the meaning is clear.

Merhaba! Ben Anna. Bugün cuma ve hava güzel. Sabah saat sekiz buçukta otelden çıkıyorum. Çantam, telefonum, pasaportum, biletim, kartım ve anahtarım yanımda. İçinde defterim, kalemim, gözlüğüm ve bir kitap var.

Saat dokuzda arkadaşım Deniz ile kafede buluşuyorum. Deniz'in kahvesi masada, benim çayım geliyor. "Bu senin kitabın mı?" diye soruyor. "Evet, benim kitabım," diyorum.

Sonra okula gidiyoruz. Bizim öğretmenimiz Ayşe. Ayşe çok iyi bir öğretmen. Sınıfta öğrencilerin çantaları sandalyelerin yanında. Öğlen ders bitiyor. Parkta kahve içiyorum. Saat üç buçukta otele dönmek istiyorum.
